Other Motherboard Considerations
What else do you look for in a good motherboard? You want a motherboard that uses the ATX form factor (you probably don't want a mini-ATX form factor board because it doesn't have as many expansion slots, mentioned below) and not the older AT form factor. You want one with plenty of expansion slots (as many PCI slots as possible, because all of your cards are going to be PCI cards) and make sure that it has at least 2 USB ports (almost ALL boards will have 2 USB ports, some might even have 4). Oh, and make sure there's an AGP port on there as well (AGP 2X or 4X, depending on your chipset, but it really won't make a big difference between the two). You want a board with as many memory slots as possible, with 3 being the least number that you want to consider. With that covered, we now have the "base" for your system, and we can begin to look at the other components that go into your new system, starting with the memory.
