KDS VS-190 - Continued

So, as I was pleased with the picture I got when running the monitor at 1280x1024 @ 60Hz, I just left it along and used it regularly for the next week. I was, however, not pleased after that week had gone by. When I first took this monitor out of its box, the first thought that I had was heat problems, and it finally showed up after extended time periods of use. Remember when I turned the frequency up to 85Hz, I noticed those dark streaks down the left hand side of the monitor, but disappeared after I switched back to 60Hz, well, they've reappeared, even at 60Hz! See, after an extended period of time of use (say, 2 hours), they slowly appear, which can be directly associated with heat build-up inside the monitor.

Other problems that happened during that weeklong "trial period"? During the week, I'm not sure exactly which day, one of the pixels on the monitor decided that it didn't want to shine any light no more. Yes, there was a pixel on the monitor that was completely black, and was getting really annoying. Another thing that was annoying, albeit a little minor, was that the circle of buttons for the on-screen controls seemed completely out of place and was very distracting. I often find that instead of staring at the stuff inside the screen, my eyes would drift off to look at the set of buttons on the outside of the screen. Of course, this is only minor, but is another little consideration.

After that week, I eventually got fed up with the annoyances. Took it back, and had them send me another one of the same monitor. The black dot disappeared, but the rest of the problems, with the dark streak down the left hand side of the screen being the most annoying, were still there. After another week of using the KDS, I got so fed up with the monitor, I eventually returned it and took back my old 17" to use, which was a lot easier to look at.

Pros

  • Cheap price
  • Small, unique-shaped neck (back of the monitor)
  • Moiré control panel

Cons

  • Where do I start?
  • Noticeable moiré at all resolutions
  • Blurry at high frequencies and resolutions
  • Heat problems
  • Dark streaks down the left hand side of screen
  • Requires a lot of "calibration"
  • VGA plug is not blue-colored (not PC99 compliant)
  • Buttons for on-screen controls very distracting
  • Very unreliable
