Conclusion
From the benchmark results that we saw in the last few pages, the Pentium III 1GHz processor is truely a powerhouse for power users only. Unfortunately, though, the price of this processor is still considerably higher, even when comparing it to the next step down, the Pentium III 933MHz. The question is, why would someone spend a few hundred extra dollars just so to get 3 extra frames per second in Quake 3? I know I wouldn't, but, if you've got some serious cash to burn, or you just have to have the bragging rights, then this processor is truely for you. On the other hand, if you have only a fair amount of cash to burn, but still would like a share of the bragging rights and performance level that the 1GHz Pentium III allows, then I suggest you go for the less-expensive 933MHz or maybe even the 866MHz version.
For now, the Pentium III 1GHz is the fastest that Intel is offering to the market; however, expect a 1.13GHz version of the Pentium III to be re-released soon that should, as Intel claims, top off the Pentium III line of processors. After the Pentium III, there will be the Pentium 4, slated for release later this year, which will boast a brand new architecture and will end the development of the faithfull, 3 year old P6 architecture for Intel.
